Colorado
Colorado boasts of the highest concentration of world famous ski resorts. High elevations and cold temperatures help to produce their well known 'champagne' powder. While Colorado ski resorts provide terrain and experiences for all ability levels, its popularity as a ski destination can lead to crowded slopes and heavy traffic on I-70 getting to and from the ski resorts.
Utah
Known for 'The Greatest Snow on Earth', Utah has world class ski resorts within an hour of Salt Lake City. Locals and visitors alike can take advantage of their light and dry powder. The lower elevations relative to Colorado make it a good option for those prone to altitude sickness, but it can also lead to poor early season conditions.
Vermont
Vermont offers the best skiing in the Northeast US, and remains a popular destination for enthusiasts in the surrounding states due to its close proximity. Regardless of which ski resort you go to, you can count on there being snow during winter in Vermont. Most of the resorts have the ability to make snow, so there are no lulls in the season.
Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is known for its high snowfall paired with over 300 days of sunshine. Visitors to the area can enjoy a lively après ski, robust nightlife and entertainment at the local casinos. While not as cold as Colorado or Utah, the lower elevations at times receive rain leading to the infamous 'Sierra cement'.
