On the Mountain

There are only a few on-mountain dining options at Keystone all of which give generous portions despite being a little overpriced. To give you an idea of the pricing, chicken strips and french fries (which is big enough for two) usually run about $14, so if you’re looking to save a little dough, share with your ski buddy.

The Summit House, located at the top of the River Run Gondola on Dercum Mountain, is known for its wide array of sandwiches and burgers, great for a quick midday meal and to embrace the alpine views. On a Friday night, come for their meal and drinks specials and enjoy the live music from both local and regional bands.

Over on the top of North Peak at The Outpost is The Timber Ridge food court. There’s a variety of dishes here which are quite nice though try to avoid lunch hours as it does get fairly crowded. At the base of the Santiago Express lift on North Peak, you’ll find LaBonte’s BBQ, serving house-smoked meats and classic sides. Or for something a bit special in the evening, The Alpenglow Stube is an AAA Four-Diamond restaurant, the highest of its kind in North America.

Off the Mountain

The River Run Village is where the bulk of the restaurants and bars is. At Zuma Roadhouse you’ll find a range of fresh dishes including their home-made soups and sauces. They’ve got everything from burgers to Smores fondue, but their tacos are what you’re here for! There are no reservations here, so it’s best to get in early.

There are also a range of restaurants and pubs along Highway 6. For a good cheap eat head to Pizza 101, which is closer to Mountain House base area. This popular joint is serious about their pizza, offering a small and simple menu. Create your own pizza or try some of their tasty specialties such as the Godzilla: pepperoni, beef, sausage, ham, mushrooms, green peppers, onions and black olives. They claim to have the best pizza in the Summit County and we definitely think their brick oven-fired hand-tossed pizza is worth a try. Otherwise, for a sit-down meal, the Snake River Saloon nearby serves up steak and seafood. 

If you’re willing to travel out of Keystone, there are several pub-style restaurants and major fast-food chains throughout the nearby towns of Dillon and Silverthorne. The Dillon Dam Brewery is the number one largest brewpub in the Colorado Rockies. Its got a rustic, frontier-like environment made to represent a mining town and offers a wide range of beers including their hand crafted lagers and ales. They even use their beers in their dishes and design the food to pair with their brews. Try their Mountain Man Mac & Cheese is flavored with a touch of their Dam Straight Lager or the Munich Schnitzel Sammy which is served with an apple slaw, a side of beer mustard and fries.

Après-Ski

As a family-friendly ski resort, Keystone’s après ski options are limited. For families, Kidtopia offers free daily fun events and activities for children. From fireside cocoa and coloring to Family Game Night to watching fireworks on Saturday night, there’ always something on to keep the whole family entertained. If you’re just having a short ski day, escape the cold and head down to the Kidtopia Headquarters in River Run Village which has toys and games for all ages and is open from 9:30-3:00pm.

For food and drinks, Kickapoo Tavern is the place to go for après ski. This bar and grill restaurant is conveniently located at the bottom of the River Run Gondola so you can slide straight in for one of their craft beers. They serve your usual American pub fare from burgers to homemade buffalo meatloaf all at reasonable prices. It’s got a lively atmosphere that’s also kid-friendly making it our top choice at Keystone.

To make up for the lack of wild après-ski options, make your way over to party town Breckenridge; less than half an hour drive away. Breck has a notorious reputation for its après ski and has endless numbers of bars making it perfect for pub crawls. Just note, the Summit County is known for its constant DUI patrols, so if you’re planning on having a big night, leave the driving to a designated driver or an Uber.

The town of Frisco is slightly closer to Keystone, 20 minutes drive away and also multiple dining and drinking establishments on its main street, though not as much as Breck.
