Snowmobiling & Snowshoeing 

Snowbird also offers an array of activities such as snowmobiling tours through Lofty Peaks Snowmobiling, including clothing rental if you need it. Your tour starts at the top of the tram (so be sure to get to the Activity Center at Snowbird Center early), which makes it the highest starting point for a snowmobile tour in North America. If you prefer a quieter option, there’s also snowshoe rentals and guided tours for people of any experience level.

Snowbird Tour

You can join volunteer naturalist rangers from the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation for a free 45 minute tour on the slopes where you can learn about the canyon’s geology, history and ecology. The tours meet Saturday, Sunday, and holidays at 1:30pm near the trail map sign outside the Mid-Gad restaurant.

The Ski Utah Interconnect Tour is a unique activity for advanced and expert skiers. There are different versions of it depending on where you start; the one departing Snowbird gives you the chance to ski Snowbird, Alta, Brighton and Solitude. If you start from Deer Valley, you can ski that resort and Park City in addition to the other four – for six resorts in one day! Go ahead and order dessert with dinner, you’ll certainly have earned it!

Heli-Skiing

Powderbird offers an array of heli-ski packages departing from Snowbird. They make a point of emphasizing that this activity isn’t just for expert skiers; they just want you to have some soft snow experience and the ability to ski all day. It’s not exactly budget friendly, with prices starting at $1,260, but you’ll get 7 flights and an absolutely unforgettable experience!

Fly Fishing

You might think it’s just a summertime activity, but guided fly fishing is available through Salt Lake Fly Fishing Company for everyone from novices to experienced fish slayers. All the fishing gear is provided along with water, snacks, and deli lunches.

Other Activities

Ski Rental

There are four rental shops at Snowbird. Snowbird Sports and Christy Sports are in Snowbird Center, the lower terminal of the tram. Cliff Sports is slopeside in The Cliff Lodge, and offers tune-ups and overnight repair in addition to rentals. If you’re on the Gad Valley side, Creekside Sports offers rentals and basic tuning and repair service. All the major brands are represented, but not necessarily in each shop so if there something in particular you have in mind, you may want to call ahead to find out which shop carries it. The rental packages let you change out skis, so if it’s puking snow (say, more than 8 in of new stuff) you can make sure you’ve got the powder skis to make the most of it!

Mountain School

Snowbird has its very well-regarded "Mountain School" with lessons for children ages 3-17 and adults, plus multi-day camps. The rates are higher than at neighboring Alta, and unlike Alta, Snowbird requires reservations. However, there are discounts for booking before the season. There’s also a beginner’s package that includes lift ticket, lesson, and gear rental at a better price than paying for each separately.

For the tiniest shredders, Chickadee lessons for three year olds are one-on-one and lessons for four to six year olds have a max group size of three. From age seven and up, students are grouped by ability levels. For adults, group lessons for up to eight people last almost three hours, and private adult lessons are either three hours or all day. As an added bonus, the Snowbird instructors are allowed to take students to Alta!

Tipping your instructor isn’t required, but certainly appreciated. $5-$10 would be appropriate for a group lesson, while $10-$20 is reasonable for children’s full day lessons.

Basketball

Of course, Salt Lake City itself has plenty to see, including professional basketball and Temple Square. If you make the trip to Park City, you can check out some of the venues from the 2002 Winter Olympics and its two museums (Alf Engen Ski Museum and the George Eccles Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum). Make sure you leave plenty of time to take it all in.

Child Care

Camp Snowbird is the resort’s state-licensed childcare facility, open daily through the winter for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. Rates are $100 half-day or $140 full day for 6 week through 24 month olds, and $90-$120 for the older kids. Reservations are required.

Evening in-room babysitting is available from Camp Snowbird for all guests staying overnight in one of the resort lodges. It goes for $24 per hour with a three hour minimum, and requires a 48-hour advance reservation. Another option is Guardian Angel Babysitting. They have a slightly lower hourly rate ($20), but a four hour minimum. They also provide grocery delivery service for a fee, which would come in handy if you have a kitchen but didn’t have the chance to stop for groceries on the way up.

Health

For injury or illness, there is a clinic at the resort in Snowbird Center. They treat everything from ski and snowboard injuries to colds and altitude sickness. Physical therapy and full-service hospitals are in Salt Lake City. If it’s pampering and not medical attention you need, then head over to the Cliff Spa on the 9^th floor of the Cliff Lodge, which is newly renovated for the 2017-18 season.

Supermarkets

General Gritts is Snowbird's own convenience store. Located on the first floor of the Snowbird Center, they have all the essentials and a small selection of groceries as well as a full-service deli. For a wider selection of items, drive to nearby supermarkets such as Smith's or have groceries delivered to you.  

Banking

There are ATMs in both the Cliff Lodge and Snowbird Center, but credit cards are widely accepted across the resort.

Internet

Cell service is spotty on the mountain itself but good at the base of the resort. All of the lodges have wireless internet.
